Islands of Maine
Documenting a small island resembles an artist rendering the human form. The artist must observe how a model relates to the environment to capture the subject with precision. Here, the ocean defines the island’s essence, much like the model. By contrast, an island differs from an expansive landscape such as a desert. The sound of tides gently brushes the shoreline. A small piece of terra firma sits within a vast ocean. Moisture saturates the air, creating a soft, dreamlike quality in the photographs. (Project dates: 2003–2010) view map
